Tips to Protect Wildlife:

1. Watch Your Step

Wildlife could be lurking anywhere, so it's important you watch where you're stepping. Especially near beaches or the ocean, there are lots of different wildlife that can blend in with the surroundings and make it difficult to spot them.

2. Do NOT Feed the Wildlife

This is essentially the number one rule when dealing with wildlife. Some animals can be avid cravers of food and once they get a little taste of some human food, they will most certainly come back wanting for more. They can also start to become aggressive if they don't get that food again. Also, you might not even realize that a certain food you are feeding them could be poisonous or contain something harmful to their bodies. You don't know their diet, so it's best to keep your food to yourself.

3. Share the Road

Wildlife has a right of way the same way pedestrians do. Many animal-related deaths have been from vehicle collisions and have continued to increase in the past years. Remember to drive at a safe speed and keep an eye out for any wildlife crossing the road.

4. Do Not Touch the Wildlife

Yet another precaution that should be recognized. While some animals may seem friendly, looks can be deceiving. Some animals don't want to be disturbed and can react in unforeseen ways when touched. For others, you may not be so lucky, and they can start to get violent.

5. Keep Your Distance When Taking Pictures

It's cool to see animals in person, and why wouldn't you want to take a picture to keep as a memory? But, you have to remember, wildlife don't exactly like seeing a camera up close in their face and a flash of light that can blind them. You can take a picture, as long as you are keeping a healthy distance not just for your own safety, but also for the welfare of the animals. That perfect picture could ensue dangerous consequences.

Ways to Protect Wildlife, Even at Home:

6. The Three R's

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Reducing the amount of waste we use, resuing materials so we can avoid throwing things away, and recycling all help to decrease landfills that are harmful to wildlife. Using recycled products as well as composting both help to increase lifespan of animals. Not only are you helping wildlife, you are also helping preserve the environment a the same time.

7. Report Any Activity Harmful to Wildlife

If you happen to come across any illegal actions that are being done to animals, it is important to let officials or also any organizations that can help to solve the problem. The lives of endangered animals depend on you to save them.

8. Organize Fundraising Events

Organizing fundraising events, whether it be in your local area, your school, online, is a great way to raise money towards the well-being of wildlife. You can also raise money to buy supplies to make homemade donations to shelters. Any donations, no matter how big or small, can count towards something and make an impact.

9. Join an Animal Organization

There are so many animal organizations today that you can join. There are groups ranging from saving local wildlife from dangerous situations to organizing protests. Research online for nearby organizations that you want to be a part of and contribute to.

10. Use YOUR Voice

You could create a blog, share your beliefs over social media, attend city council meetings, or even writing emails to local newspapers.
